Where are they now?

Respectful fusion of fashion and art

November 22, 2019

Christi Belcourt is a Métis visual artist with a deep respect for the traditions and knowledge of her people. Her art explores and celebrates the beauty of the natural world. Ms. Belcourt received the Governor General’s Innovation Award in 2016 for raising awareness and creating momentum for Indigenous culture through her art. Her initiatives relate to a wide range of social issues and she champions forward-looking collaborations that are models of respectful partnerships and principled adaptations of Indigenous culture.

Ms. Belcourt recently partnered with Manitobah Mukluks to create a special edition pair of mukluks. She is no stranger to infusing fashion with her art. In 2015, she collaborated with Valentino on their fashion line that respected and raised awareness for Indigenous cultural traditions.
