Dr. Kamran Khan was awarded a 2018 Governor General’s Innovation Award for his innovative, data-driven system BlueDot. As an infectious disease physician and scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Dr. Khan works to provide global awareness and security in relation to infectious diseases. Founding BlueDot in 2013, Dr. Khan conducts scientific research on infectious outbreaks and provides a global early warning system for dangerous transmittable diseases.

After the world-wide SARS epidemic in 2003, Dr. Khan devoted his research to studying ͞human population mobility,͟ mapping and studying the spread and growth of diseases by following the patients and carriers of the illness. BlueDot uses innovative technologies, big data, artificial intelligence, and geographic information systems, to predict the worldwide spread of diseases and track outbreaks, including Ebola and the Zika virus.

BlueDot is actively developing an early warning system for the world’s most dangerous infectious diseases. Dr. Kahn states that his goal is to ͞[empower] people, businesses and governments with insights that are data-driven, so that they can make smarter decisions to protect themselves and those around them.
